FAQ
Questions and answers
What is Read95?
A reading app for learning languages. It takes books and articles worth reading and presents each one so that you already know about 95% of its words, fitted to your own vocabulary. The other 5% are what you learn.
Which languages can I learn?
French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Finnish, Arabic and English. The app itself can speak to you in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Finnish or Arabic.
Why 95%?
Because reading research puts reasonable comprehension at about that point. With 95% of the words known, you can follow the text and still meet new words on most pages. The research page explains the studies behind it.
How does Read95 know which words I know?
It starts with a short calibration in which you select the words you know. After that, every text you read and every word you look up refines the estimate, in both directions. If reading gets consistently easy, your level rises; if you look up a great deal, it eases back.
What will I read?
Fiction, essays, history and travel writing from a curated library. Works are chosen for their quality and sorted by subject, and your texts are picked by what interests you. Long books are read a passage at a time, in order, and the app picks up where you left off.
Are the texts the original works?
No. Each passage is rewritten at your level from a real work: the facts, the story and the argument are the source's, the words are chosen for you. Every passage is then checked for accuracy to the source and for how naturally it reads. Some works were written for adults, and their language comes with them.
Does Read95 use AI?
Yes, to rewrite the texts at your level, to check them, and to write the explanations of the words you look up. The AI services receive text, never your name, email address or account number, and your data is not used to train AI models.
What happens when I don't know a word?
Press and hold it to see what it means in that sentence. The word is recorded as one you did not know, and it comes back for review at widening intervals until you know it. Looking words up is not cheating: it is how Read95 learns what to show you next.
What level do I need?
Any level, from beginner up. Texts are written for the words you know, so a beginner gets short, simple texts and an advanced reader gets texts close to the original works. From upper-intermediate (B2), you can switch the app's own language to the one you are learning.
Why is a text not always ready straight away?
Because it is written for you. A new text is rebuilt at your level from a real work and then checked, which can take a minute or two the first time. Once a text exists, it opens instantly.
How much does it cost?
The free plan gives you three texts a day, for as long as you like, with no card. Reader+ gives you up to 27 texts a day, for one language at a time, at $9, €9 or 900 DZD a month depending on your region. You can cancel whenever you like, and your first subscription is refunded in full if you ask within 14 days.
Can I learn more than one language?
Yes. Each language keeps its own vocabulary, level and reading history, and you read in one of them at a time. Reader+ covers one language at a time.
Where can I use it?
On iPhone, iPad and Android. Read95 is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. There is no web version.
Can I try it before it launches?
Yes. Sign up as an early tester. Early testers get Reader+ free during the test and for three months after the launch.
Are there streaks and notifications?
There is a reading streak and a daily goal on the Today screen. Reading reminders stay off unless you turn them on.
What happens to my data?
It stays on your account and decides what you are shown next. There is no advertising and nothing is sold. You can download your data or delete your account from Settings at any time. The privacy policy has the details.
